Applying Vinyl Decals
and Graphics
Your vinyl decal
and graphics can be safely applied to glass or metal surfaces. Make
sure to clean the area where the vinyl will be applied with a cleaner
that appropriate for that surface (Never use harsh ammonia based cleaning
products (i.e. Window Cleaner), they will cause your vinyl to bubble
and peel a few weeks after application). For best results surfaces should
be between 50 and 90 degrees.
Once the area is clean you can apply the vinyl by using either a wet
or dry method:
When Applying Vinyl Graphics Find Your Center Measure and mark the center of your vinyl and using a straight edge
lightly draw a center line down the middle of the application tape.
Next measure and mark the center of the sub-straight you are applying
the vinyl (mark slightly above and below the area were the graphics
with be placed). Once marked install using one of the two methods described
below.
Dry Method
1. Run a piece
of masking tape vertically next to the center line (either side) you
drew running several inches past the top and bottom. Position the vinyl
where you want it and tack in place with the masking tape.
2. With the vinyl taped in place, gently lift one side and peel back
the vinyl from the backing paper. Being careful not to let the sticky
side of the vinyl touch the sub-straight, cut and discard the backing
paper from the exposed area with a pair of scissors or razor knife.
3. Working
from the center (masking tape) smooth down the vinyl with your hand
or squeegee.
4. Remove the masking tape, lift the remaining side of the vinyl, remove
the backing paper and again, working from the center smooth down the
rest of the vinyl.
5. After rubbing the entire vinyl area firmly, slowly remove the application
tape by pulling back at a sharp angle. If a part of the vinyl starts
to lift simply rub the area back down and peel again.
Wet Method
1. With a spray bottle wet the area where you are applying the vinyl
with a mild soap and water mixture. Make sure there are no dry areas.
2. Peel the vinyl from the the backing paper and lightly spray the adhesive
side.
3. Apply the
vinyl to the surface of the sub-straight where you want it. Slide the
decal around gently to make any adjustments until it is properly placed.
Be careful not to rip it.
4. With a squeegee, work all the fluid and bubbles from the vinyl starting
in the center and working out.
5. Wait between a 1/2 hour and 1 hour to let the decal dry then remove
the application tape as instructed above.
